In Kyllo v. United States, the Supreme Court held that using technology not in general public use to learn what is inside a home, which could not otherwise be known without going in, is a search. Vantage treats that as an engineering requirement rather than a policy note. No reading is reachable without an authorization record, and that record cannot be edited afterwards.
